Sew Something Saturday! Buttercup Bag

This week I made a Buttercup Bag to try out the pattern. I LOVE it so much, I am thinking of making a few more for Christmas gifts for my friends. I'm think maybe black outside with print inside.

My favorite, favorite part is the pleats on the front and back. It's kind of hard to see in a picture, but they are super cute. Oh, and I love the fabric, but I like crazy prints, and was so excited to find a use for this one I had. :)

The inside is pink and has a cell phone pocket. It also has a metal snap, this was my first time putting in a snap, I was nervous, but it turns out it is really easy. I downloaded this pattern from Made By Rae, she is amazing, if you want to make one for yourself head over here and get a copy of the pattern! Happy sewing!

P.S.- After the new year I am thinking of starting a Sew Something Saturday linky, is anyone interested? You could link up any sewing project, tutorial, or picture.

Sew Something Saturday! Key Fobs

This weeks "Sew Something Saturday" project only needed a little sewing, but was a lot of fun. I made these key fobs I've been wanting to make since I saw some at a Christmas craft fair (I know... took me long enough). I roughly followed this tutorial if you want to make a few.

Sew Something Saturday! Silverware Bag!

So I always seem to need silverware for Molly when it's not convenient to find any. A lot of times as a reward for being good in the store I'll let her get a yogurt to eat, but of course I am always scrambling to find a spoon... That brought on this ingenious(or so I think, lol) idea! I made a little drawstring bag to put plastic silverware in, so I could easily carry it in my purse. :)

I used this tutorial from happythings, to make an easy drawstring bag. I just made mine long and skinny for the silverware to fit in. If you follow my blog, you probably also notice it is the same fabric as this apron, got to love leftover fabric. :) This is a really quick and easy project, there are so many great uses for a little drawstring bag. Ruffle Camera Strap - "Create With Me" Project

For the June "Create With Me" Project over at UCreate, they are making a Ruffle Camera Strap using Char's tutorial. I have been eying this great tutorial for awhile but was to nervous to try to use fusible interfacing again (for some reason, I always do the opposite of what I should and ruin my iron, my 2nd iron, and my ironing board cover...). So, when I saw this, I knew it was time to face my fear (hehe) and make myself a super cute camera strap!

If you want to make one of your own, it's not to late to join the fun over at UCreate, the "Create With Me" June project runs through the end of the month. If you sew one, send a picture over there and she will display them on her great blog.

Felt Card Table House!

So excited to show the Felt Card Table House I made this week. It was such a FUN sewing project, and only took a few days.
I love sewing with felt.

Here's a picture of it without the cat paw reaching underneath.

Molly is loving it.

Front Doorway!

Complete with Mailbox!

That opens with a pocket to put mail!

Dog House for Molly's stuffed dogs to go in!

Or should I have made it a cat house???

Complete with bones to play with!

Clothesline to hang her doll clothes on!

And a window with changeable flowers. The flowers are Velcroed on, so she can change which ones go in the window box!

I followed the felt along tutorial over at Fireflies and Jellybeans to help make this fun house, with lots of inspiration from Crafty Chic Mommy. Thanks Ladies!

Happy Sewing!

Sew Something Saturday! Dish Towel Apron!

Yesterday we went to Old Navy to check out there great sale. They had all there clearance stuff an additional 50% off! Needless to say, I ended up with these cute "Mother's Day dish towels" for .80 cents a 2 pack!!!!! (who knew Old Navy ever had dish towels) I was so excited, I have been looking for cute dish towels to try out this apron tutorial for a LONG time.

There are so many great dish towel apron tutorials out there, but I knew in my head how I wanted to make it, so when I saw the blog I Have To Say's tutorial, I new this was the one to try. I made a few size adjustments since I was making mine for a 2 year old though.

It turned out SO cute, and was really easy. Molly was already sleeping when I made it tonight, so she will just have to try it on in the morning, I think she is going to love it, and it will definitely get tons of use. Now I just need to come up with someone to make an apron for with the other towel. :)

Sew Something Saturday! Fabric Bracelet

This week for Sew Something Saturday I whipped up these quick and adorable fabric bracelets. I used the great tutorial I saw at Women Who Do It All. They are so easy and fun, and are a great way to use up some scrap fabric. I am excited to make some to match all my summer outfits. :) Happy Sewing! Sew Something Saturday! Car seat Strap Covers!

Now that it is finally starting to get warmer here, and we had a few days without coats, I was noticing Molly and Nora's car seat straps rubbing on there necks and leaving red marks.

I remembered seeing this idea for making car seat strap covers over at Obsessively Stitching, she has a great tutorial on how to make your own. So I gathered up some velcro, potholders and iron on cuteness(just to make them more girly), and got to work. Seriously, SO easy, it only took about 10 minutes start to finish. :) Happy Sewing!

Sew Something Saturday! Tic-Tac-Toe

Over at During Quiet Time, they had the idea to sew a super cute tic-tac-toe board. If you've ever seen my game closet you know I have an addiction to games, so I knew I had to make this straight away. I had some left over flower print, blue fabric, and bias tape from some of my other "Sew Something Saturday" projects that worked out just perfect for this one.

Head over to During Quiet Time, and see how to sew your own.

Sew Something Saturday! I-Spy Swap

I am SO EXCITED to be part of Obsessively Stitching's I-Spy fabric swap 2.0. I really wanted to join last time she did they great swap, but wasn't fast enough to get signed up, so I am very happy I made it in this time. Head over and check it out.

Basically 20 of us all pick out 10 different fabrics for an I-Spy quilt and cut out 20 squares of each. Then we send them in, and get back one of everyones fabric, so I'll have 200 different I-Spy fabric squares! Yup, 200 different!!!!! It has taken me 6 months to save up 5 squares on my own, so this is huge!

Here are the 10 fabrics I choose and cut to send in for the swap. It was fun thinking about what would be easy and hard to look for in the quilt. I am SO EXCITED to make this quilt, that I have be dreaming about how I am going to put it together. I think something like this.

Sew Something Saturday! Play Dr. Scrubs

This week I decided to sew some play Dr. scrubs for Mollycakes. She is very in to dress up and imaginary play lately, and just loves the Dr. kit that she got from her cousin for Christmas, so this was something I knew she had to have.

I actually used a store bought pattern for this project. I picked up Butterick 5565 at the fabric store, which was classified as "Very Easy." Um... sure... although some parts were super easy, it seemed like some of the other instructions were missing or I just didn't get what they were asking. Even with my mom's help, it wasn't all "Very Easy." But in the end I think we got close to what they wanted. :)

Molly absolutely LOVES them! She hasn't stopped wearing them for 3 days, even the hat. Here she is "Fixing" a kangaroo. Now, what to make next...

Sew Something Sunday! Halloween Pillow Cover Tutorial

I know I'm a day late in posting my "Sew Something Saturday" project, but I'm hoping I'll make up for it by giving you this great tutorial on how to make slipcovers for your pillows.

I was at Hobby Lobby and picked up these Halloween Bandanas for .60 cents a piece! I knew exactly what I wanted to do with them, and for once, the idea in my head actually turned out just like I wanted it to! This is a SUPER easy way to make a cover with a zipper, and is great for switching to other covers for different seasons, or for washing.

Here are the Halloween Pillow covers I made. I LOVE the spider web print.

You will need:
Two Bandanas for each pillow you want to make
Zippers to match about 1-2 inches longer than the pillow you are making
Black Thread and Bobbin
Scissors
Sewing Machine

Cut the bandanas to the size needed to cover your pillow with seam allowance.
My pillows were 16" x 16", so I cut my bandanas into 16 1/2" x 16 1/2" squares, so I can use a 1/4 inch seam on each edge.

A tip that I used was when cutting my bandana I left the top edge the way it was. It is already finished, so I used that edge to sew to the zipper so I wouldn't have to worry about fraying.

Next, pin the right side of the zipper to the right side of the fabric at the top, so it looks like the photo above. ( I use my zipper a little longer than the fabric so it is easier to work with, I just trim off the excess later at it's sewn into the seam, as shown below)

Sew zipper to bandana, and then unfold to look like this. Now just repeat for the other side (pin right side of other side of zipper to the right side of the second bandana and sew together).

When unfolded it will look like this. With the zipper between the two bandanas and should be able to zip and unzip.

Now pin the sides of the two fabrics together with right sides together. And pin the sides together. Then you just need to sew both sides. Have the zipper unzipped about 2 inches so you don't accidentally sew it shut. Make sure to backstitch a few times over the top where the zipper is.

This is what it will look like with the zipper on top and both sides stitched together.

Now open the bottom of the cover, and reach in and unzip the zipper all the way across the top.

This is what the top will look like unzipped.

Now pin the bottom two layers together and sew it up.

Trim up the excess zipper and thread.

Turn your cover right side out and your almost finished.

And stuff the pillow into your cover and zip it up.

Ta Da!!! Easy Peasy!!!

Sew Something Saturday!

I've been dying to try this super cute fabric flower tutorial over at Sew Ritzy-Titzy. It is turns out so adorable, and hardly takes up any fabric. I made this one to pin to Molly's book bag. But now I'm thinking I'm going to need to make some for my own purses and coats.

Head on over to her great tutorial, and give it a try. I'm sure you'll love how it turns out as much as me. Happy Sewing!

Sew Something Saturday!

This weeks Sew Something Saturday project was a blast to make. It really hardly has any sewing at all, only the elastic, but I think it still qualities.

Going on my daughters crazy need to dress up all the time, I made her this adorable tutu! I found a great tutorial over at Tea Rose Home. It is so fun and simple to make and turns our fantastic.

I used black and purple for my tutu because I only had black elastic in the house, I love the colors, but now I can't wait to make a pink and white one. :) I had a bunch of tulle by the yard in my fabric stash, so I used that, and it really didn't take as much as I thought.

Happy Sewing!
