So, my friend Karen saw that Pottery Barn came out with there Halloween stuff, and sent me the email. Most of you know I LOVE FALL and everything that goes along with it, so this is right up my alley. Now, I don't shop at Pottery Barn because it is not in the budget, but I do LOVE to get ideas from there.
So when I saw the chalkboard Halloween rocks they had, I knew I could make them with things I had around the house, and I think I got pretty close. I may even like mine better, since I didn't have to pay for them, hee hee. :)
First, I found my spray primer, chalkboard spray paint, old newspaper, and a bunch of flat rocks I swiped from my in-laws landscaping!
Then I sprayed both sides of the rocks first with the spray primer, and then with two coats of chalkboard paint.
Then I sprayed both sides of the rocks first with the spray primer, and then with two coats of chalkboard paint.
After they dried, I decorated them with chalk! (I use the chalk ink markers I had from decorating Nora's room, they are AWESOME!)
They were so cute, I decided I could write different words and pictures on them so I could display them now, and then change them for Halloween and all the different seasons.
I need to find a cooler vase or way to display them though. :)
I love this and can't wait to make some. I bet we could find a really nice ceramic bowl to put them in too! Two questions: what is spray primer and why do you use it first? Can you swipe me some rocks too?
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth! Spray primer is just like normal primer you use before you paint, but just in spray paint form. I used it first to make sure the chalkboard paint went on the rocks smooth and even, and only needed the two coats.
ReplyDeleteWow! You did an awesome job Kim! These are just adorable!
ReplyDeleteThese are SO cute! I will have to make some of these. I hope Friday still works for you for a Craft Night. Just let me know.

How very neat! I love the stones that you see that say 'dream', 'faith', 'love', etc...but not the price tag. Hmmm...we have some rocks outside...I have a can of spray paint... lol
ReplyDeleteGreat job :)
I just saw this in the catalog and want to make some. Thanks for the tutorial. They turned out great.
ReplyDeleteActually, our house is white...and it's ugly! LOL It needs painting...one more thing on our list! What you saw in the picture was our "fire place" that is built in and not a real fire place. :)
ReplyDeleteI read your fb. I will get back to you today. I have so much to tell you, but don't want to do it on here...
Sending hugs your way!
seriously i can't believe they think people will pay for this, something that is so easy to recreate even for craftically challenged people, such as myself. ha. yours look great! coming over from someday crafts.
